Academic & College Counseling

The Counseling Office offers every student comprehensive support through academic and college counseling services. Collaboratively, the Counseling Team assists students and their families in making well-informed academic decisions, ensuring a fruitful high school experience. Throughout high school, college counseling is integrated into the student's journey, enabling students to develop informed and strategic plans for their post-secondary education that align with their strengths, passions, and aspirations.

Academic Counseling

  • Creation of an individualized 4 Year Plan with yearly updates

    For 9th graders at Valley Christian, academic counseling focuses on transitioning from middle to high school, ensuring students adjust academically and socially. Counselors work with these young students to develop effective study habits, time management skills, and a solid foundation in core academic subjects. This early-stage counseling aims to set a positive trajectory for their high school years, encouraging exploring interests and potential career paths through elective choices.

    Introduce high school expectations, curriculum, and evaluation systems and explain post-secondary education options and basic college admission criteria

    In the 10th grade, academic counseling builds upon the foundational year, focusing on deeper academic engagement and exploration. Counselors guide students in refining their academic and extracurricular profiles to align with their emerging interests and goals. This period emphasizes the importance of educational achievement and introduces students to preliminary standardized testing strategies, helping them understand the relevance of their efforts toward future college applications.

    For 12th graders, academic counseling is intensely focused on the college application process, from finalizing college lists to crafting compelling applications and essays. Counselors support students in meeting application deadlines, securing letters of recommendation, and making informed decisions about early decision and early action opportunities. Additionally, they offer guidance on scholarship searches and financial aid applications. This final year of counseling ensures students are well-prepared to transition from high school to the college of their choice, equipped with the skills and knowledge to succeed in their future academic and career endeavors.
